GCIS/MSS INTELLIGENCE UPDATE: In a move that caught the Israeli government and the Jewish Israel continues to be the primary target of Islamic hatredworld by complete surprise, on October 21, 2010, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared the Tomb of the Hebrew Patriarchs in Hebron and Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem "an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories," admonishing the Israeli decision to add these biblical shrines to the list of Jewish historical and archaeological sites as "a violation of international law."[1]

What is less known, however, is that the driving force behind "the attempt to detach the Nation of Israel from its heritage" (to use Israeli prime minister Netanyahu's words)[2] was the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which pressured UNESCO to issue the declaration and drafted its initial version.[3] U.N. secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has recently described the OIC as "a strategic and important partner of the U.N."[4] In fact, it has been the OIC that has successfully exploited its marked preponderance at the U.N.—where it constitutes the largest single voting bloc—to turn the world organization and its specialized agencies into effective tools in the attempt to achieve its goals, two of which are to bring about Israel's eventual demise and to "galvanize the umma [Islamic world] into a unified body."[5] (read full report)

GCIS/MSS INTELLIGENCE UPDATE: JERUSALEM — The uprising in Egypt could result in the Netanyahu warns against radical Islamcountry falling into the hands of radical Islamists, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warned.

Speaking to a delegation of 400 European lawmakers and members of European Friends of Israel who visited the Knesset Monday, Netanyahu said Islamists may try to take advantage of the situation in Egypt, Haaretz reported Tuesday.

"Egyptians can choose a state with secular reforms. However there is also another possibility, that the Islamists will exploit the situation in order to gain governance over the country and lead it backwards," the Israeli daily quoted the prime minister saying.

"The third possibility is that (Egypt) will go in the direction of Iran" and "oppress the country and threaten all those surrounding it," Netanyahu said. (read full report)

GCIS/MSS INTELLIGENCE UPDATE: TEL AVIV — Israel has no military chief. The government of Lt. Gen. Gabi AshkenaziPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an unprecedented decision, has withdrawn its appointment of Israel's next chief of staff and the government has been unable to agree on an interim replacement.

Officials cited allegations of improprieties by Maj. Gen. Yoav Galant, named to replace Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi.

"This is an abnormal situation," Ashkenazi said. "We are going through an unfortunate period right now, but the Israel Defense Forces is strong in the face of these obstacles."

On Feb. 1, the government decided to appoint Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Yair Naveh as interim military chief. Officials said Naveh was expected to fill the post for at least 60 days until an investigation of Galant's alleged land grab was completed or another candidate was found.
However, the Naveh appointment has not been submitted to the Cabinet amid widespread opposition. Several ministers have called for Ashkenazi to continue in the post. (read full report)

GCIS/MSS INTELLIGENCE UPDATE: For the first time, a U.S. government supports granting a Muslim Brotherhoodgovernment role to an extremist Islamic organization: the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

On Monday, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Egypt's new government will have to include a "whole host of important non-secular actors." Most prominent among these is clearly the Muslim Brotherhood – which has made Islamic world domination one of its ultimate goals. It also opposes Egypt's 30-year-old peace treaty with Israel.

Gibbs said the Muslim Brotherhood must reject violence and recognize democratic goals for the U.S. to be comfortable with it assuming a role in the new government. This caveat does not significantly alter the new American approach, which is very different than that of the previous Administration, in which George W. Bush pushed Mubarak for democratic reforms but never publicly accepted a role for Islamists. (read full report)

In a separate report:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that if democracy prevails in Egypt then it will not pose a threat to peace with Israel.

"All those who value freedom are inspired by the calls for democratic reforms in Egypt," Netanyahu said during a speech to the Knesset. "An Egypt that will adopt these reforms will be a source of hope for the world. As much as the foundations for democracy are stronger, the foundations for peace are stronger."

The prime minister said that there is a risk that instability in Egypt could last for years, and called for "bolstering Israel's might" in response to the turmoil. (read full report)

"Egypt is Israel's foremost partner in the region," she said. "So it is, without a doubt, important for our country that the political situation in Egypt stabilizes as soon as possible."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier expressed hope that the political crisis in Egypt would not affect the peace accords between the two states, and also warned about the threat of radical Islamists coming to power. (read full report)

GCIS/MSS INTELLIGENCE UPDATE: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday, Benjamin NetanyahuJan 31 he feared Egypt could end up with a radical Islamic regime as in Iran that would "grind human rights to dust" and go against the interests all the peoples of the region share for peace and stability.

"Our main care is to preserve the peace," he stressed in his first comment on the Egyptian crisis at a joint conference with visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The Israeli prime minister's words were widely interpreted as support for President Hosni Murakak, for three decades faithful defender of peace with Israel, rather than a reference to the tidal changes overtaking Egypt and potentially other authoritarian regimes in the Middle East.

He also made the gesture of allowing the first Egyptian 800 troops to enter Sinai since the military since the 1979 peace treaty demilitarized Sinai – as first disclosed by DEBKAfile.

The troops arrived Monday, Jan. 31, to back up Egyptian special police units under attack from Hamas intruders from the Gaza Strip, who were acting on orders from the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo.

The Israeli prime minister repeated the same old mistake of leaning on the Egyptian military, in the person of the former intelligence minister – now Vice President – Omar Suleiman to sort out the Hamas threat from the Gaza Strip and Sinai. (read full report)
